Man in corn

Wider and deeper

The Maseno Project has encouraged local aid and enterprise:

  • Micro financing – a group trained in June 09 now saving and making loans among themselves. Some young farmers with no land of their own have been given micro loans to rent land so they can be included in a farm school
  • Development of craft and jewellery making co-operative with markets locally and in the UK
  • Orphan-headed families relief through visiting teams programme.
  • Tailoring school run by the Orphan programme through the gift of sewing machines.
  • Farm school at local orphan programme for children to learn good farming techniques and also provides extra food for feeding programmes.
  • Assistance of seed, fertilizer and knowledge to local primary schools to grow more food for their pupil feeding programmes.
  • Bulk buying of seed and fertilisers. This enables farmers who have graduated the FFS’s to benefit from bulk buying of accredited seed and fertiliser.
  • Micro credit and table banking – to enable farmers to work together in small groups to work towards savings and securing micro loans for small business enterprise.
